Britanska šola v Ljubljani, otvoritev novih prostorov
03.11.2014 Ljubljana
Ob njem so slavnostne govore imeli tudi Paul Hibbins, Karin Motaln, predstavnica združenja staršev, Mohamed Ismail, predstavnik učencev in dijakov in Jennifer Bray, Jeremyjeva dolgoletna sodelavka in podpornica šole.
Monday 3rd November 2014 saw the first anniversary of the tragic loss in a car accident of the founder and Headmaster of the British International School of Ljubljana, Jeremy Hibbins. His parents, Paul and Anne Hibbins, were joined by members of the school community, Ambassadors and other guests to commemorate and celebrate, not just the life of Jeremy Hibbins but also the legacy he left in the form of the British International School of Ljubljana.
The school’s new home at Cesta v Gorice 34b was officially opened by Mr Christopher Yvon, Charge d’Affaires at the British Embassy in Slovenia and Honorary Patron of the school. Mr Paul Hibbins observed that Jeremy would have been proud to see his school in its new home and continuing to grow as he had planned. Mrs Karin Montaln spoke on behalf of the Parents Teachers Association and Mohamed Ismail on behalf of the students. Mrs Jennifer Bray, a long-time friend of Mr Hibbins and supporter of the school read out messages of support from Jeremy’s sister, Sarah, and other former colleagues of Jeremy’s. The school offers two academic Wessex Scholarships, so named by kind permission of HRHs The Earl and Countess of Wessex, and Mr Yvon presented certificates to the two inaugural Wessex Scholars, Evelina Pelko Komljanc and Clare Charlesworth.
After the ceremony, guests were able to tour the school facilities and observe teaching and learning in action, including Year 3’s indoor rain forest and a hair-raising physics experiment with Year 11. The event was rounded off by all enjoying a buffet on the top floor. “This has been a great inaugural Founder’s Day, celebrating the life and achievements of Jeremy school and we all look forward to many more such events in the future. This has been the most difficult year anyone could have imagined but the strength and spirit of Jeremy’s dream has been rightfully reflected in the strength of the school community as it worked together to continue to make his dream a reality.” Said Mr David Cooksey, Principal and Director of the British International School of Ljubljana.
